Author: Ambrose Bierce

Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce, (1842 -1914) American short-story writer, born in Horse Cave Creek, Ohio. He fought in the Civil War and reached the rank of major, but saw his part as a soldier as little more than that of a paid assassin. He went to England in 1872, where he lived until 1876. In 1913, estranged from all family connections, Bierce went to Mexico, where civil war was raging, and disappeared. It is not known exactly when or how he died.
